What can massage do for me?
Does pain or restricted movement keep you from living the active lifestyle you deserve?  Sport injuries, household accidents, repetitive actions on the job, and tension from everyday stresses can cause problems that, too often, take up permanent residence in our bodies. Massage can help.  Massage is a gentle therapy that can relieve pain, and along with medical attention, help heal certain conditions and prevent their return.  In some cases massage can even reduce or eliminate the need for medications or surgery.

Can massage help Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Yes it can. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome occurs when fibrous adhesions bind the nerves to adjacent tissues leading to tractioning of the medial nerve and compromise of the nerve.  Symptoms include pain and/or numbness, weakness, stiffness, and pin & needle sensations in the fingers.  By treating these adhesions along the medial nerve with massage therapy and exercise, results can be obtained in 3 to 10 visits.

What about pain in the foot/heel spurs/Plantar Fascitis?
Heel spurs are a spine-like outgrowth on the heel caused by injury or disease.  These outgrowths can cause tremendous pain when walking.  Plantar Fasciitis is foot pain experienced when you get out of bed in the morning, or after sitting for extended periods during the day. With proper massage therapy and the fitting of Foot Levelers Orthotics, relief can be obtained in 3 to 8 visits.
What about tight or painful muscles?
Massage can relieve many types of muscle tightness, from a short-term muscle cramp to the habitually tight neck, back, or leg. Massage acts directly on your muscles with stretching and kneading motions.  It also stimulates your nervous system which in turn instructs your muscles to relax.  Getting the proper massage therapy is essential to keep any athlete in top condition and injury free.
I was just injured. Can massage help?
Absolutely! Massage can help heal injuries that develop over time, such as tendonitis, as well as ligament or muscle strains caused by accidents.  Massage reduces inflammation by increasing circulation, which removes waste products and brings nutrition to the injured cells.  Certain massage techniques can limit scar formation in new injuries and reduce or make scar tissue more pliable around old injuries.  Muscles can become so contracted that they press on the nerves.  If this happens, massage can release the muscle spasm and bring lasting relief.
Stress has got me down in the dumps
Massage is one of the best known antidotes for stress.  Reducing stress gives you more energy, improves your outlook on life, and reduces the likelihood of injury and illness.
Ok, I'm sold. So how do I find a Sports/Deep Tissue Massage Therapist?
To find a good Sports/Deep Tissue Massage Therapist, you have to do your homework. Ask your friends if they go to a Massage Therapist and do their like their work. Find out how much and where the therapist received their training.
To be a massage therapist in Texas, all that is required is 300 hours of classroom study and six hours of continuing education a year, and the only technique that is taught in school is Swedish Massage.
Swedish massage is a relaxing type of massage not appropriate for sports pain relief. Additional training and classes are required to properly perform Sports/Deep Tissue Massage. Find out if the therapist has appointment times that are convenient and fit your schedule. And lastly, find out how much of his/her business is Sports/Deep Tissue Massage. You want someone who has been properly trained and specialized in Sports/Deep Tissue Massage, not someone who took a weekend class and says they do Sports/Deep Tissue massage.
If all you want is a relaxing, resort style massage, there are a lot of good therapists who can accommodate you, but if you want a great Sports/Deep Tissue Massage that digs in and virtually makes your athletic activities PAIN FREE, give Joe a call at 214/448-8848. He will recommend a massage therapy program that is designed especially for your athletic requirement and have you back to your active lifestyle in no time at all.
